Philippe Starck designed motor yacht “A ” with Martin Francis for russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. Built by blohm+ voss motor yacht A is 119 meters long and weighs approximately 5500 tonnes. reminiscent of a submarine warship the mega yacht’s name is a tribute to Andrey Melnichenko and his wife serbian fashion model Aleksandra Nikolic.
Theres a few things wrong with this boat for me, but lets start with what I think works. This boat is all about the unexpected: It has a mysterious feel with its submarine aesthetic and re-invents conventional yacht designs. It must be very exciting boat to watch cruise through the sea. The nose is fierce and dramatic as it slices through the water, and adds a feeling of protection to the owner. It is designed to outrun threats: The boat, which is stabilized by fiber-optic gyroscopes, is rumored to also be equipped with a pod-like escape system. Philippe rendered the interiors in a very clean, modern, luxurious way. He could have added a softer feel however, the over kill of mirrors makes it feel sterile rather than “geometric”, or built-in “mathematical beauty”. Mr. Starck says that while most mega-yachts are “vulgar” statements of wealth and power, “A” was designed to be in harmony with the sea and nature. “This boat has elegance and intelligence, it is not trying to show the money,” he adds.
Having said that, Do you know how much gas this thing is wasting: Filling the gas tank costs more than $500,000. The aerodynamics on this thing is totally pointless when having the deck house that tall, resisting the wind and slowing down the boat. Even as only as a pure form the deck house reads as too tall and really awkward. Whyyy??? He should of added a Monte Carlo building on top. The front of the boat doesn’t take advantage of space and leaves less room for outside leisure. I mean who cares how much rooms under “the hood”, if there’s not enough outdoor room to soak up the sun, but I guess it serves as a helicopter pad. Each person has their own needs.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing?

Coincidentally, Some future Wally yachts to look forward to: a gorgeous concept yacht from Hermes, and Wally Power 118 just up for sale. Am intrigued by their form, but how functional are they? Time will tell.
….. I am in love with Hermes yacht thus far, A+
